A copyright owner has claimed content in one of your videos…

November 8th, 2008

I’m getting sick of YouTube.

youtube

Two of my videos that have been on YouTube for about two years now and had a combined viewing figure of over 7,000 views have recently been blocked from playback due to copyright issues. These two videos were both very popular and had recieved a lot of comments with praise.

It wouldn’t bother me but I have seen dozens of videos similar to mine which have used the same music and they remain online and untouched. Why should mine get blocked and theirs allowed to continue? I understand that copyrighs have to be protected so I won’t do anything about it and I accept that fact, but surely half the videos on YouTube are infringing those rights in exactly the same wa, yet they go unnoticed.

But what copyright issues? What kind of videos were they? I understand your frustration though… but if it’s any consolation, it’s always the most popular videos that are subject to the rules - ergo yours must have been extremely popular.

One video featured the song ‘Ring of Fire’ by Johnny Cash, and the other ‘Till I Collapse’ by Eminem.

I wouldn’t expect that Johnny Cash would be too bothered given he died 5 years ago!

    Exactly!
And then especially considering that there are at least a dozen other ‘Till I collapse’ videos still on YouTube. Bah?!
Can’t you ask someone there for an explanation?

Somehow it seems my video is now unblocked. I didn’t appeal its ban but it seems to be available for the public to watch again. Work that one out!

So that means someone is going around claiming copy rights for what actually does not belong to him and the one to whom it belongs becomes the sufferer. Why would people want to claim what is not theirs? Isn’t there something that can be done to fix this?

I understand your frustration but YouTube clearly states that you have to own the rights to what you post on their site and because you didn’t they removed it. Keep in mind that there are thousands of videos posted on their site on a daily basis so you should be happy your videos were up there for 2 years. And be even happier that the original owner of the copyrighted material didn’t sue you. As far as others that still remain on the site.. They too will be removed and if you really want revenge, become a troll and report them all. That is if you don’t have anything better to do with your life.
